How To Download Torrents With Ares Galaxy

The native Ares network is great for downloading a few songs or videos on the go, especially considering the integrated search feature. But nowadays, everyone uses torrents to download the big files. Indeed, torrents have become ubiquitous on the internet and you’ll be lost without a good torrent client.

There’s no shortage of torrent clients online. Apart from the big three (uTorrent, Vuze and Deluge), there are hundreds of other clients all vying for your attention. Unfortunately, many people seem to forget that Ares Galaxy has evolved far beyond its original capabilities and can play the part of torrent client extremely well nowadays.

Most among you have probably downloaded torrents before, and I suppose you can stop reading this right now if you already know how to use them. However, there are still a great many people for whom torrents are something new and unknown. If you feel as if I’m speaking directly to you now, then read on and discover how to use Ares Galaxy to get your hands on those sweet torrents!

A Short Introduction To Torrents

First of all: what exactly is a torrent? To put it in as simple terms as possible, a torrent file contains information. This information directs your torrent client towards certain people who have certain files and allows your torrent client to download from these people and store a copy of the files in question on your hard drive.

So from your perspective, a torrent file gives your torrent client (which can be anything, but we’re focusing on Ares Galaxy here) the necessary directions to start downloading a file that you want.

Where To Get These Torrents

Torrents are available all over the internet. Plenty of organizations have made giant collections of books, videos, lectures, music, and other digital information legally available via their own torrent trackers and of course there are also plenty of illegal trackers who proudly display less than kosher content for download.

Obviously, we can’t spell out to you where exactly you should go, because there are so many of them. Nonetheless, none of the most famous legal trackers should be hard to find if you know how to use Google (neither are the illegal ones to be frank) – hint: try adding the word ‘torrent’ to something you’re looking for on Google.

Once you’re browsing a collection of torrents, all you have to do is find one that contains some files you want.

How To Use Torrents

If you have a torrent file which has interesting files you’d like to have, you might be wondering what to do next. If you download the torrent file, you’ll discover it’s only a few kilobytes big and doesn’t really do anything by itself.

What you need to do is open the file with Ares Galaxy. You can do this either by dragging the torrent file into your Ares Galaxy window, or by right-clicking on it and selecting ‘Open With…’. In the following dialog box, choose Ares Galaxy (you may have to browse for it), check the box next to ‘Always use…’ and you’re good to go!

And that’s it! Ares Galaxy will now connect to the tracker and then to the people who are sharing the files and it will download them to your hard drive automatically. Have fun torrenting!

How To Improve Yourself With Ares Galaxy By Using It As A Tool For Learning

We are living in a learning economy, where information is king and education is a prerequisite for success. Hundreds or thousands of dedicated websites, computer programs, apps, college courses and books have been created to fill the increasing demand for ever more specialized knowledge.

Today, we’ll talk about how you can use Ares Galaxy to become more successful at life, by using it as a tool for studying and learning valuable skills.

Specialization In Human History

One of the cornerstones of human development is specialization as a result of the division of labor. When early man discovered that he could greatly increase his productivity by working together with others and specializing in a specific task, rather than each doing his own thing in isolation, the stage was set for the dawn of humanity.

Over the millennia, we evolved to become ever more specialized, and the progression of human knowledge meant that the work we were performing became increasingly complex. The complexity of the knowledge required for specialization meant that we needed more and more education.

Long story short: in order to be successful in 21st century society, we have to dedicate ourselves to an extremely specific set of skills and excel in it. It’s much better to master a tiny niche, than it is to be jack of all trades (and a master of none).

To attain this specialization, we have to spend years learning, reading, studying and improving ourselves. According to Malcolm Gladwell, author of ‘The Tipping Point’, it takes about 10.000 hours to become an expert in something.

Learning With Ares Galaxy

Before discussing the obvious, let’s talk about a more fundamental aspect of Ares Galaxy.

Ares Galaxy is a portal to the world. It is a way to interact with hundreds of thousands of people who have all connected with one another through the free Ares download. You can communicate with all these people through the chat and listen to online broadcasters via the internet radio feature.

All contact leads to exchange of knowledge, so in this respect, Ares Galaxy allows you to profit from the knowledge and experience of others by the sheer virtue of allowing communication on a global scale.

But, more obviously, Ares Galaxy’s main focus is of course P2P sharing. Though we usually view Ares as a way to get our daily entertainment fix, it could potentially be life-altering software for you, thanks to its learning opportunities.

You can easily download and share tutorials, textbooks, science books, lectures, and much more, by simply looking for them in the search or adding torrents to your Ares window. The amount of information on the internet is gigantic, but, as statistical guru and political predictor Nate Silver would say: it’s very difficult to find ‘signals in the midst of all the noise’.

Authors and professors have already organized the best learning material – by distilling signals from all the noise – for you, and others have made it available on Ares Galaxy. What are you waiting for? Get our free Ares download now and start learning!

How Internet Radio Can Make Downloading Even More Fun Than It Already Is

Probably the most underutilized part of Ares Galaxy is its internet radio feature. Almost every time we mention the radio feature to happy users of Ares Galaxy, we receive a blank stare in return. We simply cannot believe how many people are unaware of this amazing free feature!

Internet radio is well over a decade old by now, but it still boggles the mind how much value there is in it and how fun it is to use it. Ares Galaxy introduced a radio feature several years ago and though it has been somewhat neglected in the past few updates and has a bit of a ‘beta’ look, it is 100% functional and works like a charm to brighten your mood!

How To Use Internet Radio In Ares Galaxy

Probably the main reason why the radio feature is not as popular as it could be for Ares users is its rather awkward position at the bottom of the screen.

Click on it and you’ll get a single option: ‘Online Radio’. Hover over that and you’ll be presented with three options. ‘New Radio’ allows you to enter a new radio station to listen to. ‘Directory’ gives you three online databases to choose from and find a station of your liking. ‘Save To Disk’ is for when you want to save whatever is being played on the radio to a local file on your PC (for if you want to listen to it again later).

We’ve discussed saving streams to disk earlier on this blog, so please use our search box on the right if you’re interested in that. For now, we’ll concentrate on the basic Ares Galaxy radio experience.

Finding Radio Stations

The three radio databases Ares Galaxy links to directly gives you tens of thousands of stations to choose from (by the way, we recommend the first one, ShoutCast, as it has the largest selection of the three), but this is by no means an exhaustive list.

Ares Galaxy can play any radio stream you find on the net as long as it’s in the right format. If you have some internet radio stations you enjoy, try finding the stream URL and enter it into Ares Galaxy and chances are it will work perfectly. A quick Google search for internet radio stations should yield an almost infinite list of results as well.

Listening To Radio On Ares Galaxy

Once you find a good station you want to listen to, you need to copy the stream URL. This sounds complicated, but it’s actually really easy. Simply right click any stream and then select ‘Copy link address’ or the equivalent thereof on your system. This should copy the stream URL into your clipboard.

Next, open Ares Galaxy and select ‘New Radio’. Paste the address in there (CTRL+V to paste quickly) and click OK. Ares Galaxy will connect to the source and start playing almost immediately. And that’s really all there is to it. A whole world of free music now lies open to you. Have fun!

Having Their Cake And Eating It Too: P2P Users Buy 30% More Music According To Survey

It seems obvious that people who share music and movies online spend less money on those things, but recent research actually yields surprisingly counterintuitive results. While some individuals certainly purchase less creative content legally, file sharing in general seems to cause more of this content to be bought on the market.

The research in question was published earlier this month on the Huffington Post and Ars Technica and is of particular interest to users of Ares Galaxy whose file sharing experience is slightly different from that of ‘pure’ torrenters.

Sharing Before And After Ares Galaxy

People have been sharing music and movies with their friends and family for many decades. This leads to the somewhat surprising insight that the majority of songs and movies in the collections of non-file sharers is actually of a less than legal nature.

Most of us don’t even think twice about borrowing a DVD from a friend, lending a CD to a family member or making a mix tape for a significant other. Yet these are all examples of file sharing. According to the research the average American has a song collection of 1,300 songs, of which 582 (about 45 percent) were purchased according to the letter of the law.

Ares Galaxy – along with a plethora of other file sharing software – takes the principle of sharing content with friends and family and applies it to an even greater circle of friends and family: the entire internet. Now, people can share their collection with anyone in the world and borrow from anyone as well.

It seems obvious that this should lead to decreased legal purchasing of content, but the research tells us that this is only half true. The average American file sharer has almost 2.000 songs in their collection. A smaller proportion (38 percent) is legal, but in absolute numbers, this translates to a higher absolute amount of legally-bought songs (760).

In other words: the collections of file sharers have a larger proportion of non-legal content in them, but because these people have more than 50% songs in total, they also buy about 30% more music.

Ares Galaxy And The Discovery Principle

So what might be the cause of this? Well, the researchers point to the fact that file sharing makes the discovery of new content much easier than before. Because of this, file sharers learn about many new artists, directors, genres, etc. than they otherwise would have known about and end up spending more money on their entertainment than non-file sharers do (who are stuck with their own collection and that of their friends).

Ares Galaxy is particularly useful for people who want to discover new things because our Ares free download offers, among other things, a live chat feature, an integrated search module and free internet radio with tens of thousands of stations.

All of the above can be used to facilitate discovery of new things and broaden your horizons. So use Ares Galaxy, download to your heart’s content, seek out new content producers and support the artists you enjoy!

Four Ways To Overcome Boredom With Ares Galaxy

One would think that, with the amazing innovative technologies that are being rolled out on an almost daily basis all over the world, boredom would be a thing of the past. None such luck however. In the midst of this glut of entertainment and leisure possibilities, we still find ourselves bored, alone, and strapped for something to do.

Luckily, Ares Galaxy posits the solution to this modern problem of having too much free time and not enough things to do. Have a look at these four ways you can stay busy and enjoy yourself with nothing but our Ares Galaxy free download.

  1. Browse The Ares Network

Just like shopping is almost as fun as using the items you’ve just bought, browsing for new things to download on Ares is almost as fun as actually consuming digital content. Look at what’s available and discover some new music or videos. No one will pressure you to download anything, but if you see something you like, remember that everything is free!

To browse the network, just type in the name of an artist, band, actor or genre you like. Check for things you don’t recognize and then do another search for these. You might discover some very interesting things this way.

  1. Watch A Movie

Nothing is better to pass the time than a good movie. Though there are plenty of dedicated media players on the internet, why bother when Ares Galaxy is really the only program you need?

Simply drag a video file into Ares Galaxy to have the Ares Media Player start playing it. All features you’re used to are available on Ares and as an added advantage, you can easily keep an eye on your downloads and chat communications via the tabs at the top.

  1. Listen To Internet Radio

Traditional radio stations are nice, but internet radio is just so much better. The reason is that there are just so many stations available on the internet that there is bound to be one out there that caters to your most specific niche. Feel like some Caribbean party music? No problem. Want to hear the news in Tel Aviv? It’s just a mouse-click away.

The internet radio bar is located at the bottom of your screen and it’s begging you to use it. You can easily spend many hours listening to your favorite stations and discover new artists you would otherwise never have heard of!

  1. Chat To Some Random People

Isn’t it amazing that the internet allows us to chat in real time with people from across the globe? We take it for granted now, but it really is a fantastic and very new innovation that is absolutely unique in the history of the world.

Ares Galaxy’s built-in chat module is your direct liaison with the rest of the world. Fire it up, choose a chatroom and start talking! You might make some friends or learn something. And Ares even puts an exciting twist on traditional chatting with the ability to look at which files other chatters are sharing. Feel free to take a look at what they have and download directly from them!

Legal Torrent Technology Paves The Way For Media Innovation

Most of us use torrent clients like Ares Galaxy and uTorrent to download movies, music, software, and much more. In this respect, torrents have become an essential part of the online experience. However, there are several ways in which the torrent protocol is now being used by companies and websites around the world to streamline their media distribution methods.

In other words: P2P in general, and torrents in particular, are becoming a staple technology for media innovators. According to the experts there are two main ways in which Ares Galaxy and other torrent clients can play a legitimate and central role in the evolution of media in the early 21st century.

Ares Galaxy As A Discovery Platform

What we mean by ‘discovery platform’ is an online platform that helps people find and discover new media content they would otherwise not have come into contact with. Websites can be discovery platforms, and so can forums, chatrooms, television, church, and pretty much anything that is in any way connected to communication.

With respect to torrent technology, there are two possible approaches. The two approaches are embodied by the two main contenders for the title of best torrent client: Ares Galaxy and uTorrent.

  • uTorrent’s approach is one of discovery through features, advertisements and other producer-led methods. Both the uTorrent website and the latest version of the uTorrent program are now offering ‘featured content’: advertisements and promotions of content, based on your previous downloading behaviour.
  • Ares Galaxy’s approach is one of discovery through peer-communication. Ares Galaxy allows you to communicate with other users of the program through its integrated chatroom function. In these chatrooms, people discuss and recommend media content, and bowse and download what these individuals are sharing directly.

If you think about it, this difference in approach to media is similar to the different approaches that Google and Facebook take when it comes to all online content: Google (uTorrent) organizes content and lets you discover it based on what you input in the search box while Facebook (Ares Galaxy) users get most of their recommendations through social interactions with the other members of the network.

Media innovators are using both methods to popularize their content. In uTorrent’s case it’s led by producers and in that of Ares Galaxy by consumers.

Ares Galaxy As A Distribution Platform

The other way innovative media creators are incorporating torrents and Ares into their business model is by using it as a platform for distribution.

Famous author of ‘The 4-Hour Work Week”, Tim Ferris, is the best and most recent example of this. When Ferris launched his latest book, ‘The 4-Hour Chef’, he made chapters of his book and parts of the content such as recipes and videos relating to it available for free download Ares Galaxy –wise. The media storm that this generated surely made his strategy a very lucrative one.

Of course there are still other ways torrents will impact the way we consume online media, but these are two of the most promising ones. Get your own Ares Galaxy free download right now and start discovering newly distributed content!

Ares Galaxy As A Model For The Offline World: The Rise Of The Sharing Economy

Is Ares Galaxy only possible on the internet? Or can the principle of free Ares downloads, international collaboration and altruistic sharing be applied to the real world as well?

Answering this question can fill many books, and we’ll refrain from doing that for now. We will, on the other hand, give a short outline of the ways in which the free open-source model of Ares Galaxy can become a true inspiration for the offline world – and our focus here will be on the concept of the ‘sharing economy’.

What Is The Sharing Economy And How Is It Similar To Ares Galaxy?

First of all, let’s answer the more obvious question: what is Ares Galaxy?

In short, Ares is free software that enables people to share digital information with one another for free. There are no strings attached and then there is never a ‘quid pro quo’. Rather, you download from others what you want and you share with others what you want. Somehow, this model works, and it leads to many terabytes of content being available for all to download via Ares.

Crucial to Ares Galaxy is the idea that ownership of and access to a digital good is not one and the same: one person who owns information can share it with others, while the original ‘owner’ is none the poorer after the new owner consumes the data.

‘The Sharing Economy’ is an attempt to put this idea into practice in the real world and has also been called ‘collaborative consumption’ and ‘the peer-to-peer economy’.

How Does It Work?

Before telling you how it works, we’ll tell you first how it doesn’t work.

The real world is different from the online world because, for the most part, real, tangible goods are exclusive. For example, if you have an apple, and you decide to ‘share’ it with your friend, you don’t suddenly have two apples, as would be the case on Ares Galaxy. Rather, you’d have only half an apple each. Collaborative consumption is not a ticket to material abundance (unfortunately).

However, a more durable good like a car can be ‘consumed’ many times over. Additionally, when you own a car, chances are that you’re not driving it 24/7 and it’s just standing around gathering dust for a significant part of its ‘life’.

The Sharing Economy then proscribes: share your car ‘consumption’ with someone else, and ‘consume’ something of theirs (let’s say their apartment or their video game collection) in return. In this case, both parties are better off, and the original owner didn’t lose any value, as long as the good is returned in excellent condition.

Ares Galaxy In The Real World

As we have mentioned above, collaborative consumption or sharing doesn’t transcend scarcity, and economic laws still apply. However, in so far as goods can be consumed multiple times by multiple people, like is the case with digital goods via Ares Galaxy, Ares concepts can, to a certain degree, be applied in the real world.

Google some of the concepts we just discussed and see if the Sharing Economy is something for you. Regardless of whether or not it really works in practice, know that Ares Galaxy has worked online for many years and will continue to provide you with free content for many more to come!

Ares Galaxy 2.1.9 Release Shows Appetite For Growth

Ares 2.1.9 is the latest version of everyone’s favorite P2P file sharing program and it was released on November 23, 2012. While the updates were rather incremental (mostly bug fixes and optimizations which are not very interesting for laymen and non-geeks), the new release does signal a few things, the most important of which is Ares Galaxy’s appetite for growth!

Get Your Ares Galaxy 2.1.9 Free Download

First of all, click on ‘Ares Download’ on the right of your screen, or click on the Ares Free Download link right here to download and install the latest version. We always recommend using the latest version. Even if your previous version is working fine, you should still upgrade, because:

a)      It’s free!

b)      It’s better!

The Ares Galaxy Is Expanding

With the latest release, our Ares Galaxy team is trying to convey two things:

  • Ares is getting updates on a regular basis and we are trying to remain the very best in P2P File Sharing, regardless of our current popularity slump in the English-speaking world.
  • Ares is getting ready for a big marketing push and continued growth in 2013 and beyond.

The first of these relates to the bug fixes, optimizations and other performance tweaks that’ll make the already amazing Ares Galaxy experience even more amazing.

The second goes beyond the technical details of the newest version (once again, it’s 2.1.9, check your own copy to see if you’ve got the latest one) and deserves a bit more explanation.

How Ares Galaxy Is Preparing For Another Comeback

Ares Galaxy has been in the P2P file sharing game for almost ten years and in this period, our software has known its fair share of ups and downs.

Today, we find ourselves in the somewhat strange position of having a fantastic product with a shrinking user base in the Anglophone world (we are actually growing very rapidly in Latin and Eastern European countries).

In order to remedy this, the Ares Galaxy team is preparing a large marketing push and a bigger net presence. One of the ways this is currently being done is by the preparation of our very own wiki, and by a possible social media campaign.

Of course, as an open source program without any advertisements or spam, we don’t have it quite as easy as some of our competitors do. They have deep pockets, are backed by large corporations, and have steady revenue streams. These monetary means can then be used for large-scale campaigns.

We on the other hand are dependent on our users – and we would have it no other way! Ares Galaxy is made by the community for the community. If our plan for large growth in Europe, the UK and the US takes off in 2013, it will be thanks to the efforts of our users who contribute to our new marketing strategies and spread the word about our program by sharing this website!

So enjoy our new release, know that we’re still 100% behind you, and please help us serve you even better in the future by sharing this website, which has the free Ares download, with your friends, family and colleagues!

A Selection Of Ares Galaxy User Reviews

A Selection Of Ares Galaxy User Reviews

We currently don’t have any user reviews on our website, but the internet is full of them. So we looked at a few forums, alternative download locations and blogs and came up with a large selection of Ares Galaxy user reviews.

We won’t print them directly here, as you can easily find them yourself with a little googling, but we’ll talk about the major themes in these reviews and quote some of them. As it would be too difficult to contact each and every review author and ask for permission, we’ve slightly changed the wording and used initials for their usernames to protect their privacy. All of the reviews are from 2012.

Glowing Ares Galaxy Reviews

The majority of reviews are short and convey satisfaction about the program.

C.H. wrote on September 8: “It works perfectly.”

O.U. said on October 8: “I’ve used this software excessively since it came out and I think it’s better than excellent.”

B. shared on June 22,that Ares Galaxy is “a great program. It’s simple and easy to install.”

D.V. simply said earlier that month that it’s an “excellent client.”

There are tons more reviews like this, but instead of printing dozens or hundreds more of these, we’ll focus on some specific and more negative ones.

Ares Galaxy As A Torrent Client

Many people now use Ares Galaxy exclusively as a torrent client:

K. wrote on June 21 that “Ares works great as compared to uTorrent.”

O. wrote on February 17 that “this torrent client comes with a player and faster download speeds!”

J.H. said on the same day: “I prefer uTorrent, but Ares is a great alternative.”

A.V. on May 28: “Best client for me.”

D.L. said, also in May: “Torrents are the future and Ares is a perfect client.”

Though Ares Galaxy is indeed a great torrent client, we’re a bit disappointed that some people seem to be neglecting all the other features. Don’t forget the chat, the media player, the integrated radio, the media library and organizer, and of course the Ares Network!

Negative Reviews

About one in 10 reviews we found were negative. Let’s look at a few.

O.R. said in November that he “cant connect with anything.” This is the most common problem, and we’ve talked about how this can be fixed many times on this blog. And if the problem still persists, it has something to do with your own connection, not with Ares.

O.U. (the same from before) added to his otherwise glowing review that “I wish I could increase my download speeds.” This too has been discussed extensively on this blog and is rather a consequence of the nature of P2P downloading. Ares itself has no download caps whatsoever.

A. said early this year that “whenever I want to download music, Ares tells me to register and pay.” In this case, we’re baffled. Ares Galaxy is 100% free and open source and this should never happen. Our guess is that this person somehow downloaded and used a completely different program!

Conclusion

  • Ares Galaxy user reviews are overwhelmingly positive.
  • More and more people are moving away from the traditional Ares features and use it solely as a torrent client, often in combination with other clients like uTorrent.
  • The negative reviews focus on problems which can either be fixed by looking for solutions on blogs like ours, or in fact have nothing to do with Ares Galaxy at all.

Study Confirms: File Sharers Buy More Music, Movies, Games

Comprehensive research confirms that people who are active on file sharing networks such as BitTorrent and Ares Galaxy are more likely to buy music, movies and games than their non-file sharing counterparts. They also buy more cinema and concert tickets.

The latest research in consumer behavior in the Netherlands, Germany and the United States reveals the perhaps contradictory conclusion that file sharers are in fact the industry’s most valuable customers.

Research Conclusions

The Dutch Institution for Information Law studied the consumption patterns of people who do and do not actively engage in file sharing on networks like Ares Galaxy and yielded the following conclusions in October 2012:

  • 27.2% of the Dutch population of 16 years and older are active on file sharing networks.
  • These file sharers tend to buy more music, books, games and movies than others.
  • File-sharers are three times more likely to pay for online media content. In the case of music the difference is even larger.
  • Two out of every three music-sharers spend money on downloading or streaming music, in addition to sharing them on the internet for free.
  • File-sharers tend to buy more physical copies of CDs, books, games, and DVDs than those who don’t share online, but the difference is smaller here than for paid online content.
  • People who use Ares Galaxy or other file sharing software to download and share movies spend 50% more on movie tickets than those who don’t download online.

A different study on the consumption habits of American and German citizens, also published in October 2012, yields similar results:

  • American and German file-sharers are 30% more likely to buy music than others.
  • These file-sharers are in fact the best customers of the entertainment industry.
  • Offline ‘file-sharing’ (i.e. lending and sharing physical copies) is much more prevalent than online file-sharing.

How To Interpret These Results

Though these studies indicate that users of Ares Galaxy and/or BitTorrent spend more money on entertainment than non-users, we should be wary to interpret this as a direct and causal relationship.

File-sharers don’t necessarily buy more stuff because they share files, but rather because their activity on file-sharing networks piques their interest in artists, labels, directors and authors they may never have discovered without the existence of Ares Galaxy or BitTorrent.

Ares Galaxy is not merely a tool for sharing, but for discovering as well. Similar to when you might discover a new favorite song when a friend of yours lends you his or her CD, interaction with people on networks like Ares allows you to find new things you may not have heard of before.

This in turn leads to a higher demand for legal downloads and physical copies from file-sharers, which ultimately translates into higher revenues for the relevant companies.

A Word Of Advice

This brings us to the moral of this story:

To get the most out of your Ares Galaxy free download, use the network to find and explore new genres and new artists. Build your collection free of charge, and then go out and support the artists who most deserve your support.

Join the millions of file-sharers who are already doing this and enjoy Ares Galaxy to the fullest.
