Using The Ares Galaxy Chat And Making Your Avatar

The chat rooms on Ares Galaxy are a very fun way to waste a few hours talking to random people. However, if you jump into a random chat room, you probably won’t like what you see very much.

In the following few paragraphs, we’ll explain how to choose a chat room to have some friendly conversation. We’ll also talk about making your own avatar which will be displayed on the right side of the screen.

Chat Rooms And Ares Galaxy

Talking in real time with people from all around the world has been an integral part of the online experience since the very early days of the Internet. Although that special feeling of talking to people online has faded over the course of the first decade of the 21st century, there is still something magical about communicating with others from the comfort of your living room.

Unfortunately, the Internet can sometimes be a wild and wacky place, often not suitable for minors, and the Ares Galaxy chats are no different in this regard. Looking at the list of chat rooms in Ares (click on Chat and then look at the channels), the first thing you’ll notice is that at least half of the chat rooms are for adults only and discuss adult material.

Try to ignore them if that’s not your thing, but unfortunately there is no way of blocking them as of yet.

The second thing you must realize is that Ares Galaxy is used by people all over the world. Whereas the English-speaking world doesn’t seem very keen on using the chat rooms, Latin-America is absolutely in love with them. This explains why quite a few of the chat rooms are in Spanish. Fortunately, you can easily sort the channels based on language.

There are chat rooms about a lot of different subjects, and you can filter channels based on what you enter in the little search function in between the ‘Join channel’ and ‘Favorites’ buttons. Finally, you can join as many chat rooms as you want. The following screenshot shows “fun chat” channels in the search, and a few of my personal favorite channels.

Creating Your Avatar

An avatar is the little ‘business card’ on the right of the screen by which chatters are identified. Generally, people will take a quick look at what is there when you say something in the chat, so you should change it from the default (you don’t want to be known as ‘anon_580235594839’, do you?).

To choose a nickname and create an avatar, go to the Control Panel and click on Chat. The top part of the menu has everything you need to set up your own avatar card. Obviously, the information doesn’t have to be real. You can use any picture as long as it’s in the JPG or a BMP format.

And that’s it, it’s very easy to get chatting on Ares Galaxy. The hardest part is probably finding a nice room, but if you use the filter to look for something interesting, you’ll find a nice Ares Galaxy chat room with friendly people in no time at all!
